Advice to Other Alcoholics

  1. Find a place where you can be alone, and go there when you need to feel safe.
  2. Take time to forgive yourself. Maybe you need to forgive yourself every single day for the next year. Who cares? Take the time.
  3. Give sincere compliments to others. Give smiles freely too. It costs you nothing.
  4. Yesterday is gone. You don’t need to dwell on any of your yesterdays. Forget the shoulda, coulda, woulda. It’s right now that matters. Let yourself be
  5. Find some physical exercise you like to do. Then do it.
  6. Some of your friends will not want to be a part of your sobriety. The hell with them. Let them go.
  7. Get some sun on your face. Let it warm you.
  8. You’re feeling restless or sad or depressed? Take a brisk walk. Walk until you walk it out. It works. I promise.
  9. Make time to be still and know that you are loved. Meditate, pray, listen to music, take a nap. But be still.
  10. Remember to love yourself. You can always be better, sure. If you make a mistake, learn from it. Be the person you can respect. Love yourself for who you are and what you do now
  11. Choose wisely. Choose how to spend your time. Make every moment count. And remember, you are responsible for those choices.
  12. Choose wisely. Choose how you spend your money (now that you aren’t spending it on alcohol you’ll have more).
  13. Nothing feels as good as waking up without a hangover. Appreciate that.
  14. Be true to yourself. Others may try to convince you that you can take a drink. You can’t. That’s what got you here. Be true to your sobriety. Alcohol cannot be trusted. Sobriety can be.
  15. Use the damn phone if you need to. Be brave. Ask for help.
